Introduction to Micranthemum glomeratum
Micranthemum glomeratum, widely recognized in the aquarium hobby as Pearl Weed, is a fast-growing, adaptable stem plant native to North America. Its small, vibrant light green leaves make it an excellent choice for aquascapers looking to create dense, bushy textures within their planted tanks.
Plant Care and Growth
This species is highly versatile and can be trimmed to fit various roles in the aquarium. Frequent pruning will encourage horizontal growth and denser foliage. While it can survive in low-tech setups without supplemental CO2, providing medium light and CO2 injection will significantly boost its growth rate and compactness.
Aquascaping Application
Due to its rapid growth and bushy nature, Micranthemum glomeratum is ideal for the middleground, but it can also be used as a foreground carpet if trimmed aggressively, or allowed to grow tall in the background. Its bright green coloration provides a beautiful contrast against darker hardscape materials and red aquatic plants.
